The AC current sensor makes use of their Hall effect principle as the output voltage varies as a response to a magnetic field that the sensor comes into contact with. AC Current Sensors are used for current sensing application, speed detection, proximity switching and positioning. When a different voltage is produced through any type of electrical conductor the effect is the ‘Hall Voltage’. The voltage is transverse to the electric current itself and also has a perpendicular magnetic field in relation to the current.
AC current sensors are commonly used together with circuitry which makes it able for the machine to digitally act on/off. This is why it is often referred to as a switch. This is seen in many industrial applications and consumer equipment and due to the AC current sensors accuracy and reliability they are becoming common place for engineers. An AC current sensor can be used to measure how quickly a shaft or wheel moves. This can be in an anti-lock breaking system, a tachometer or an internal combustion engine. AC current sensors can detect where the permanent magnet is in electric motors. If the magnets are spaced equally the AC sensor’s voltage peaks twice in each single revolution and we usually see this to make sure disk drives have the right speed.

SCT-0400 Split Core AC Current Sensor
Magnelab’s SCT-0400 split-core current sensor transforms an AC input current from 1 to 75 Amps to a 0.333 Volt output. Split-core transformers are ideal for installation on existing electrical wiring by snapping around the conductor. The opening is 0.40″ in diameter.

AC Current Sensors
Manutech offer a huge range of DC Current Sensors and other current sensors, Rogowski coils, and more. We take pride in supplying the AC sensors you need to complete your electrical work. Our catalog of product range has grown broadly featuring tons of various Current sensors.
The AC current sensor uses the ratio of the electric field that’s induced to the current density’s product and the applied magnetic field. This is called Hall coefficient. What is applicable to this is the characteristics of the material that is used in the creation of the conductor.
